NEUROMUSCULAR TRAINING

DEDICATED SERVICE

Predators Lacrosse is proud to announce a partnership with the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). HSS is the world’s leading academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health and has been among the top-ranked hospitals for both orthopedics and rheumatology for 32 consecutive years. As part of our new collaboration, we will be assigned a dedicated trainer that will be present at many Preds events and will be on call to help with any injuries.

INJURY PREVENTION

Neuromuscular control training is change of direction training. Sports like soccer, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, and football are ALL about change of direction. Rapid, contested, explosive, sudden, unpredictable change of direction. This includes cutting, stopping, landing. These types of movements distinguish great athletes but also are the same movements where injuries like ACL ruptures occur. The elements of change of direction are body control, agility, strength, balance, and coordination. It is full body and multiplanar. Importantly, it combines both the muscular and the neural system (the neuromuscular system). It requires a specific type of training. This training is separate from strength training (ie uniplanar training). It is also different from dynamic stretching. Change of direction training starts with optimizing form. This creates efficient movement strategies but often requires rewiring instinctive movement patterns and takes practice and patience. It can be hard and feel tedious compared to other types of training like strength training. This is because this training is not just building strength but reprogramming the neural and muscular system to optimize efficient form. This type of training is the MOST effective training to reduce injury and improve performance.

RIIP REPS

RIIP Reps is foundational neuromuscular training that should be instituted for all high school athletes who play team change of direction sports (soccer, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, and football). Please click the link below to start your RIIP Reps!
