As everyone has seen both on a national and collegiate level, players with a box lacrosse background have a clear advantage over field lacrosse players who have never played indoors. Box lacrosse forces players to: Make quick decisions under pressure. Shoot and pass more accurately. Improve footwork and overall speed.

We will be fielding the following box lacrosse teams:

JOHN RANAGAN

COACH

John Ranagan, Director of Predators Box Lacrosse, boasts an impressive lacrosse career with notable achievements at both the high school and collegiate levels. As a two-time All-American at Yorktown High School, where he also served as team captain, Ranagan demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership. Continuing his success at Johns Hopkins University, he earned another pair of All-American honors and captained the team. His prowess extended to the professional level, with a decade-long stint in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and Major League Lacrosse (MLL), including captaincy roles with the Rochester Rattlers and Chrome LC teams. Additionally, Ranagan has enjoyed a nine-year career in the National Lacrosse League (NLL), currently playing for the Georgia Swarm, where he clinched the 2017 NLL Championship and earned the title of Teammate of the Year in 2019. Notably, he was also a member of the 2019 US Men’s Indoor Team, showcasing his prowess on the international stage.

BENEFITS OF PLAYING BOX LACROSSE

Box Lacrosse has been the predominant discipline of lacrosse in Canada for over 100 years. Recently, NCAA D1 coaches have been not only recruiting more Canadians with box experience, but have been changing their offensive philosophies to incorporate more aspects of the box game. The following are some of the benefits you can expect from playing Box Lacrosse:

Increased Stick Skills: Box Lacrosse is played on a smaller surface with large boards surrounding the floor. This means during a 60 minute practice you will touch the ball up to 3x more than you would on a large grass field. These reps are crucial to honing in on your stick skills.

Improvements in Shooting Accuracy: While a field lacrosse goal is 6ft by 6ft and the goalie has limited pads, a box lacrosse goal is 4ft by 6ft and the goalie's pads take up the majority of the net. This requires a higher level of accuracy and deception as a shooter to score.

"Pick and Roll" Offense/Defense: Most college teams are making "2 man games" the focal point of their offense, and this is the foundation of Box Lacrosse. It is crucial for kids to be exposed to this as early and often as possible if they would like to play college lacrosse, regardless of their position.

No Long Sticks: In youth box lacrosse, all the kids play both offense and defense. This is tremendously helpful to acquire skills that are translatable to field lacrosse, regardless of the position you play. The more well-rounded you are as a youth player, the more desirable you will be at the next level.
